West Virginia University (WVU) Upward Bound (UB) is hiring a newsletter/social media coordinator to promote program activities and student accomplishments during the Six-Week Summer Residential Program (June 25-August 4). While the summer program is six weeks in length, candidates for this position should be available from early-June through early-August to accommodate staff trainings and prep work related to the position (8-10 weeks).
Primary duties include: managing official WVU Upward Bound social media sites and website and developing content for these sites, constructing and implementing a social media strategy, creating and updating a traditional and/or digital newsletter that incorporates content produced by UB students, assisting students in developing newsletter content and teaching them principles of media/journalism, and providing media coverage for UB activities, classes, events, and trips.
Other duties may include assisting UB staff with planning activities and events, supervising students as needed during activities and during meals, attending staff meetings, and other tasks as assigned. Duties are subject to change based on UB students’ needs and applicants’ strengths/interests.
Depending on available funding, this position will either be paid directly through Upward Bound or through an AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate service opportunity with West Virginia’s Promise-The Alliance for Youth. If paid through Upward Bound, the position will be paid a stipend. Amount will be determined based on number of hours worked and candidate qualifications. If paid through AmeriCorps, the position will be paid a living allowance and a choice of a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award (can be used to pay college loans or future educational expenses) or a cash stipend.
